Women Outdoors

July 24, 2021

Flint River Paddle

PADDLE, RELAX, REPEAT… Join us for a float down the Flint River including mild Class I rapids, and easy flowing waters. The Flint is known for its beautiful wildflowers and abundant wildlife, and it is a great paddle for beginners that offers amazing scenery experienced paddlers can also enjoy. Your trip guide will offer paddling tips and share information about the natural history along the journey, but there will be plenty of time to socialize and explore as a group.

COST: $55/person, includes: boat rental, life vest, paddle, shuttle and guide services
$25/person, includes: shuttle and guide services

Ongoing Scheduling

Private and semi-private backpacking workshops and trips. Learn the basics of backpacking through hands on experience and guided excursions with other women. Packages including gear, meals, and custom training topics available.

Let’s Get Together

Life has been busy, and we haven’t been able to provide many in-person meetings this year. We plan to change that, and will resume offering monthly gatherings to the Women Outdoors group again soon! We are rethinking ways to serve this growing community, and are seeking to find female leaders and conservationists to help us in this effort. We will be posting events for July and August very soon, and should a variety of activities to fit every budget available by fall!

‘Where the Wild Things Are’ Story Immersion

Do you have a Wild Thing itching to run, skip, jump, and hop into nature this summer?? Well let the Wild Rumpus BEGIN! Join Butterfly Outdoors on the Swan Creek Greenway for a total immersion in outdoor play!

Alabama’s Ancient Sea
Long ago…approximately 325 million years ago…what we know now as Athens, Alabama was submerged under an ancient sea. Most of the Tennessee River Basin has rock outcrops that date back to the Mississippian Period of the Coal Age! Lets take a peek into the history of our world!

Wander Tots

July 2021 — REGISTRATION NOW OPEN!

Summer Wander Club

Join us for a multi-session program full of exploration, play, and community building! Each of the 4 sessions will highlight a different Land Trust preserve and theme. We will practice hands-on play and learning, facilitate social development, and discover the benefits and joys of nature-based play and learning.

COST: $15/household for single sessions, or $55/household to bundle all 4 sessions

Wednesday’s and Fridays July 14th — 23rd, 10am — 12pm

Partner Events

Trail Care — 9am to 12pm

Butterfly Outdoors would love for our community to support the Land Trust of North Alabama in caring for the trails we all enjoy. With over 70 miles of trails to maintain, they could use some extra hands! No experience required. Bug spray, sunscreen, and water recommended. Please wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes.
